It’s only by sharing our knowledge, and learning from each other, that we can become great at what we do - and design is no exception. After a summer hiatus, the traditional school year is well and truly underway again. Although we’re from a distance-learning school, with no formal term times, the renewed impetus for studying in the fall is shared by our students too. We hope you’ve been having a productive time, and are now looking forward to a break over the holiday season. We want to wish you a happy and peaceful time - wherever you are across the globe, and however you’re celebrating.

Welcome to Copenhagen International Furniture Fair 2006 - the show case for the best in Scandinavian design.

Copenhagen International Furniture Fair takes place 4 - 7 May 2006.

The fair attracted a great number of buyers and architects in 2005. The visitors from USA, Japan and Germany was very much increased in number, and no less than 283 journalists chose to come and be part of the fair in Bella Center.

The response from both exhibitors and visitors has been extremely positive, particularly regarding the innovative concept of the fair.

Rick recently asked me if I would contribute to RISEN this month, and in my enthusiasm to catch up with you all, I agreed. Then it hit me today, the day I have to submit something – what on earth of interest will I contribute?

The creative portion of my brain has all but disintegrated from the daily routine of executive tasks, which chain me to my desk the first week of every month. I attended Lavelle Pinder’s session titled, The Design Parade. She is a fabulous speaker and motivated me to think more creatively about window fashions. She showed slides, provided a nice handout, and did a wonderful Houdini in getting an unbelievable amount of real window treatments up for us to see!

The year so far has been busy for Rhodec IIDA students. First there was the 2006 IIDA Student Mentoring Week, which once again proved extremely useful and interesting for participants. Then there was our much anticipated Rhodec Meet in San Francisco. This month we’re bringing you our San Francisco Design Guide, put together for all students attending the Rhodec Meet in February – and anyone else who’s interested! Here we’ve focused purely on design-oriented activities/sites (and left the rest to the tourist guides). We hope this provides some things of interest to the budding interior designer.
